Killers (2010)

Duration:
Action | Comedy | Romance
Director:
Robert Luketic
Writers:
Bob DeRosa (screenplay), Ted Griffin (screenplay)
Stars:
Katherine Heighl, Ashton Kutcher and Tom Selleck

A vacationing woman meets her ideal man, leading to a swift marriage. Back at home, however, their idyllic life is upset when they discover their neighbors could be assassins who have been contracted to kill the couple.

CC's opinion:

Normally I love romance, hate comedy and just watch action when there isn't anything else.
If I were a director I would never try to put action, comedy and romance together, because I have to say that, normally, it never ends very good.
And when I say very good I mean a great movie that we should definitely watch.
Even tough it is not the worst movie I have ever seen, of course, for me it just doesn't work very well.

ST's opinion:
This time I can't agree with CC at all.
I guess comedy is necessary in the cinema industry. Can you imagine Hollywood without all those good comedians, such as Adam Sandler, Jack Black, Jennifer Aniston, Katherine Heighl or Ashton Kutcher? I can't. Okay, okay, I know comedy is way easier to do than drama or horror, I know, I know, but come on, we all need to laugh once in a while.
And any good comedy has to have romance and action. I've seen some that are so DRY that you'll get sick of it right away. But if you watched a couple comedies, you see all of them were pretty nice. And why? Because there's romance and comedy in it. That's the main ingredients for the comedy recipe.
About Ashton (Kutcher) and Katherine (Heighl), loved'em! They connected so well, and they made the movie even funnier. Ashton is #1 comedian for me and Katherine turned out to be a revelation. I barely knew her work. All I had seen was TV series like Rosewell and Grey's Anatomy and I truly liked those.
Now I see she's doing some more comedies. We found here another comedian, and a good one.

Brothers (2009)

Duration: 105 min
Drama | Thriller | War
Director:
Jim Sheridan
Writers:
David Benioff (screenplay), Susanne Bier (motion picture "Brodre")
Stars:
Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire.

A young man comforts his older brother's wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan.

CC's opinion:

I'm going straight to the point. I've to say that this isn't the best movie ever, even though has a good story. I'm even going to jump the whole thing about how touching the story is and the other blah blah blah...
The end. So, the end of a film means a lot to me and, in my opinion, this movie doesn't have a good one. Okay, it is not predictable but I think that it isn't the proper end, but it is just my opinion. You should watch it for yourself and decide what you think.
I think that this movie enables us to see how war can make changes on the people. It can change not just the people who are fighting, but also the others who are surrounding them.

ST's opinion:
I totally agree with CC.
It was such a good story. What happens in the movie happens alson in real life so many times (unfortunately).
But what I'd like to underline is the roles of the actors and their performances.
Natalie (Portman) was absolutly great. She turned out to be one of my favorites actresses with performances like those.
Jake (Gyllenhaal) had an easier role, I guess, but hard too. He is not in my top 10 of best actors, but I guess that working with experienced actors (Natalie and Tobey) made him "look better" on the big screen.
If Jake was good and Natalie great, Tobey (Maguire) was just perfect. The way he acted, cried, got mad and angry... just fabulous! And I don't know who chose him, but who did it, nailed.
I would give a 9 (in 10) stars to their performance. But in the movie itself, you'll see below our opinion.
Congratulations anyway.

My Sister's Keeper (2009)

Duration: 109 min
Drama
Director:
Nick Cassavetes
Writers:
Jeremy Leven (screenplay), Nick Cassavetes (screenplay)
Stars:
Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin and Alec Baldwin

Anna Fitzgerald looks to earn medical emancipation from her parents who until now have relied on their youngest child to help their leukemia-stricken daughter Kate remain alive.

CC's opinion:

People always say that love is one of the most important things in life and it is, and that's what this movie represents.
This movie is based on one of the books of Jodi Picoult. The story was great and of course touching.
"My Sister's Keeper": the title says everything for itself. It's a very good film and prepare yourself to cry at the end.

ST's opinion:

Well, I just loved the movie! It was a really intense and touching story as CC wrote. Unlike some movies I've seen, the end wasn't obvious at all. Actually it was unexpected, and that must be the reason why it kept my eyes focused only on the film during those two hours.
A good drama is the one that makes you cry. This one will surely do it. And probably you won't cry only at the end but also in the middle. I did.
I guess the film wasn't based on a real life story, but it looked so real, so genuine, so true, that if you have told me, I would belive you.
Besides the amazing movies, there is a whole crew of amazing actors.
Cameron (Diaz) made a great performance. I guess she dressed the body of this suffered mother in the best way she could, actually the best way possible, and it was her best performance so far, in my book. She is an experienced actress and she gave every inch of that experience into this master piece.
Not so experienced but also a great actress is Abigail (Breslin), the little girl from the movie. I think this was a performance of a lifetime for her. Such a revelation!
It showed love, caring, strengh and faith. Congratulations on the movie, guys!

The Blind Side (2009)

Duration: 129 min
Biography | Drama | Sport
Director:
John Lee Hancock
Writers:
John Lee Hancock, Michael Lewis (book)
Stars:
Quinton Aaron, Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw

The story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.

CC's opinion:
The fact that this film was based on a true story makes it even more touching. The interaction of the people, in this case characters, was exciting. A cloud of love and affection was noticeable between Michael and the family who welcomed him.I have to say I was impressed by the aura of emotions since the beginning of film. I would highly  recommend this film.
ST's opinion:As always I would want to fix myself on the role of Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron and Tim McGraw.
In my opinion, Sandra is one of the best actresses of the moment and I found her performance extraordinary. Sandra wasn't mom yet and I think she played very well the role she was givenAs for Quinton Aaron, I thought it was a good performance for a "novice" in this business.
One surprise I had was the participation of Tim McGraw, who I never saw / imagined as an actor. I really thought it was a good performance for a musician.
As for the movie itself, I expected more, I must confess.
But it was a good movie.

Black Swan (2010)

Duration: 180 min
Drama | Mystery | Thriller
Director:
Darren Aronofsky
Writers:
Mark Heyman (screenplay), Andres Heinz (screenplay)

Stars:
Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel

A ballet dancer wins the lead in "Swan Lake" and is perfect for the role of the delicated White Swan - Princess Odette - but slowly loses her mind as she becomes more and more like Odile, the Black Swan.

CC's opinion:
An engaging film from the 1st second. I tremendously recommend you to spend your time and/or money on this movie.
Nina has hallucinations and there is not much separation between reality and fantasy, and this is so throughout the film, wich makes us watch more and more.
It was perfect...

ST's opinion:
I thought it was brilliant. But I would focus specially on the leading actress, Natalie Portman, who, in my opinion (and apparently in the opinion of the experienced people, since she won the Oscar for best actress), was phenomenal in the shoes of Nina Sayers. The fact that she changes dramatically throughout the film - from a girl who obeys everything her mother wants to the woman who spread her wings and flew - Natalie is the best actress of the moment.
So congratulations on the movie, who realized and starred.
Good work!
